Good grief.

So during most of the filming I was suffering from a thyroid issue and we have to all remember that the camera adds ten pounds. Nuf said.

After Watching The Rally

I really enjoyed episode three. As always I learned from it. The part about the plastic bags going around the planet really hit me. Small steps, everyday, we can make a difference.

Reactions to Episode Two

It is great that I am still learning from the show. When they talked about how 40% of car trips are from 3-5 miles it makes sense that folks can cut their car use by 40%. It really makes it seem doable. I am sure it was said while I was participating but it did not sink in until I watch the show. The question is how do we get ourselves to re-engage our appendages. Its like when the people from Wally fell out of their chair transports. We need that kind of wake up call. I was reading Alden a book last night about our solar system and it really illustrated how barren the other planets are and we are the beautiful blue ball full of life and oceans. We live on such a magical place and I want it to be magical for my kids and grandkids and their kids and . . . .

On a side note, outside of the preservation of our miracle planet, . . . what was with the weird noises when I blinked my eyes and did we have to relive the buzzer again?

Carrie

_________________________________________________

I remember those first couple weeks of filming, always thinking, "Don't look at the camera, don't look at the camera". And I think we did a pretty good job of that. "Just look at your feet, just look at your feet." Laughs.

Where does all our water use go? "Toilet." Too funny. "We use the toilet more than we suspected." Laughs.

Carrie is still practicing her buzzer skills. I think she has them down. Watch out Jeopardy, here comes Carrie!

Todd - "I'm a recovering athlete, so exercise is out of the question". "I'm too tired". That was all sarcasm. Hope everyone could hear the sarcasm in my voice.

It is too funny for us to look back at our house from one year ago and see all the changes that have taken place. All the furniture, gone, changed. Paint colors, different. Organization of the rooms and wall art, gone, changed. Can't we have a little stability?

I hope we become more articulate as the show progresses.... "umm...well....ahh...like...".

We are looking forward to next week's challenge....The Transportation Challenge. That was super fun! It will be interesting to see who wins, too. Amazing Race producers, keep your eyes open. I heard there are some fierce competitors out there.

Todd

On Watching Episode One

We can' t believe we have to wait an entire week to see the next episode. It was so funny that Alden just said "Hey the electric car is on TV". Like it made total sense that he was on TV but what the hell was the electric car doing on there. I of course think the buzzer thing was way over played. I can't help it if I move quick. Its a gift. Carrie and Todd

Thoughts on The Transportation Rally

Today we had the ‘Transportation Rally, which turned out to be an interesting and exciting race around Bellingham. We were presented with the challenge of getting from point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ and ‘C’ and ‘D’ by using various modes of transportation.

Carrie and I had an idea about what the challenge was going to be, so we spent time the night before discussing strategy and making sure we were well equipped for the day. We knew that one of the biggest hurdles we would face was going to be keeping our kids (ages 2 & 4) from getting hungry and/or tired. We packed plenty of snacks and water, plus the essentials for inter-urban racing…bus schedules and coins, maps, sunglasses, and plenty of diapers.

We had a really fun time racing through Bellingham. It was exciting to quickly plan the fastest and most efficient routes around town, using different modes of transport. Carrie and I are ultra-competitive, so when the race started we had one mindset and that was to win at all costs. Pushing, hair pulling, biting, name calling…all part of the game. We even used some of it on our competitors.

In the end, though, it wasn’t about winning or losing or reaching the final destination first, it was about the adventures we experienced on the journey. Life’s travels (and many forms of travel) can be extremely rewarding when you’re not solely focused on the destination.
